I've been catching up with Glastonbury on the BBC
iplayer Steve, so far the Scissor Sisters have stood out, slick
professional pop, thouroughly enjoyable, intended to catch Stevie
Wonder, Ray Davies, Faithless, Dr.John and Toots and the Maytals tonight
but broadband's being particularly slow, so I may have to
wait, haven't been too impressed by much else as yet, not a big fan
of Jack Johnson, much prefer the likes of John Grant, The
Czars, Midlake and the various incarnations of David Eugene Edwards.
On a different note working late brought on a little surprise
tonight, I was on the slipway till 7 o clock - late tide - , when the
owner of one of the local adventure centres asked if Shirl and I
would like a trip out on their rib, wasn't going to say no, not on a
boat with 450HP hanging off the back, we went off up the river so fast
you had a job to breathe then back across the confluence of the two
rivers at +60mph hitting cross waves at enough speed to take off
more than once, now I'm home with a cold San Miguel and a grin
about a mile wide that I can't seem to get rid of.

Hi Stu
One of the pitfalls of being in Spain is we cannot access iPlayer.
Can only hope that will change in the future. Scissor Sisters and
Seasick Steve always good value for money. I know being there is so
different but I was not impreseed overall with Glatonbury this year.
Might have been different if U2 had been there.
Hope you did not think of the latter on your fantastic boat
suprise. Course you realise you will start Sticky off again mentioning
another engine!!! Lucky to have had a similiar suprise once when
on the Iles of Scilly but that was a very large old wooden sailing boat
and it was one of the most excillerating times of my life. I love being
on the water but not in it!!!
I note the reference to San Miguel - nice one!!
Cheers

Hi Steve, I knew about the i-player access,
shame really, I've been able to watch the highlights without any of the
stupid BBC presenter interruptions, managed to get through most of what I
wanted to see now can only say that The Scissor Sisters were pretty
good, Dr.John well laid back with some mellow delta jazz/blues, and
Toots and the Maytells on top form, other than that pretty average I
thought. The festival I'd like to get to is the Larmer Tree in
September, they only sell about 5000 tickets and it's mostly Americana,
I'll get there one day, meanwhile back to the San Mig.....

Hi Stu and Steve.
What a terrific experience Stu, I'll bet Shirl was 'over the moon'.
That is the kind of impromptu experience that stays with you for the
rest of your life!!!! So pleased that you had the opportunity.
Love the bit about the smile and the cold one after.
No Steve, the 450 HP does nothing for me I'm not really an
outboards man, now, one of Stu's Steam boat friends, that would be a
different story. Worth at least a right arm for a trip on one of
them!!!!!
Sorry to stick my oar in a day early, but we finished before schedule at Stoke.
Still back to Burnley next week, break out the flat 'at and feed the whippet.
Have fun .
Sticky.

"We are very excited. These boys deserve everything. Today we didn't
play well. ... It seems there's something forcing us on, it must be the
strength and unity of these boys," said Uruguay manager Oscar Tabarez. One more stage over then Steve !!! Perhaps that should read "those Tech boys"

I don,t think the "odds" or the exchange rate will be as
favorable as they were a few weeks ago Graham but some unseen force is progressing Uruguay towards the final.

Hi all.
Had a cracking pork pie this afternoon. Went to the Cotswold Country Show on the Bathurst estate at Cirencester.
In the food tent one of the gourmet pie bakeries had a stand. Bought one of theirs for my lunch, absolutely superb!!!
Unfortunately didn't have the pint to go with it, had to drive home, only six or seven miles, but you never know.
Went with 'er indoors, Ben (Son) and Becci (Daughter in law). 'Tis
confusing 'cos there are two Becky Sticklands, daughter, spelt Becky and
Ben's wife spelt Becci.
Caught up with a lot of old friends at the show, basically a good
event and all the punters seemed to be happy with plenty going on. It is
so easy to criticise when one is not involved with the organisation,
I'm sure this applies to anyone with show experience, but credit where
its due.
There was a showing of tractors both ancient and
modern, not nearly enough for my liking, but that's only a personal
preference. There was however a complete lack of equestrian activity
which I found odd for a country show, perhaps it had something to do
with the fact that there was a polo match on in another part of the
park, not visible or accessible from the show ground.
Don't know about the sex and drugs but the rock and roll, now
that's a different matter. In the catering area was a gazebo under which
a four piece band was playing, I've no idea who they were, but let's
say they were no spring chickens. As I arrived they started to belt out
'Little red rooster' which I thought was very apt, a very acceptable
rendition it was too. I hung around for about a quarter of an hour
listening to them. Meanwhile 'er indoors was in another part of the show
spending money faster than either of us can earn it! Hey ho, that's
what it's all about I s'pose.
A good day was had by all and that's what matters.
Have fun.
Sticky.

Hi Sticky, Nice find & day. Went to a militaria show
at Farnham myself, so can understand the buzz from a particular
favourite, but no pork pies. Damn! Driving too so will tackle a bottle
of red later on with dinner. 'Little Red Rooster' still does it for me.
Had a record player as a student where you put the delivery arm back and
it would go to repeat. That or 'House of the Rising Sun' used to belt
out for ages until people threw things at my door. Mind you when the
Stones were playing at Eel Pie Island in Richmond I could not be
bothered to go before they hit the big time. Mind you the girl on my arm
at the time was the distraction. Whoops! Not 'her indoors'!

Hi Graham.
Glad you enjoyed your show.
Just as a matter of interest there were a handful of vintage
military vehicles at the Cotswold, their owners seemed to be
enjoying themselves, don't know if vehicles and weapons from WW11 are of
any interest, but thought I'd mention it just the same.
Sorry we ate all the pies, better luck the next time!!
Always was a Stones fan and as you say 'Little red rooster' always
hit the spot. Like you, also rated 'House of rising sun' pretty
highly. Those were the days.............
Off to Burnley again in the morning so have to go.
Have fun.
Sticky.

Good morning
Little Red Rooster. Written by Willie Dixon and first recording by
Howlin' Wolf. Great cover version by the Stones though, first time that a
blues recording had topped the British charts, much to Brian Jones'
satisfaction. (cue song!!!)
Keep on rockin'.
Cheers

I shall be up with the Red Rooster tomorrow morning ..
off on holiday for a bit .. time to get the van warmed up and make my
annual contribution to global warming and the great British economy ...
watch out for "white van man" staring blindly into the suns rays through
my dark glasses ... and another warning .. I will be back ...!
