A new book that describes the wartime experiences of 18 people from Bath is being presented to Bath & North East Somerset’s Library Service, ahead of the 65th Anniversary of the Bath Blitz in April.

Local writer Ron Davis began to write Grandad's War after his grandson asked him what he did during World War Two.

Ron, who was schooled at the City of Bath Technical School for boys, also asked 18 of his contemporaries to write about their memories of wartime Britain, and brought them all together in his unique book.

Ron published his book shortly before Christmas and distributed it to all former pupils of the City of Bath Technical School, some now living as far away as Australia and Canada. He says that many of the old boys gave the book to their grandchildren. It has also been sent to various schools and organisations in the Bath area.

Ron is kindly donating a copy to the Library's local history collection. It is likely to be of great interest to people who were born and brought up in Bath during the war years.

Grandad’s War is being sold at £8, and any profits will be donated to a selected charity in Bath.

Ron says: “The book will be of much interest to all people living in Bath, particularly those who experienced life in wartime Britain.”

Stephanie Myler, Marketing Officer for the Library Service, says: “The Library Service is very pleased to accept the donation.  It will be an excellent addition to the collection and is a very special and unique record of local people’s experiences during the war.  We hope that many generations to come will be able to appreciate it.”

Michael Dennis Stagg .. he who came from Portishead?

I have sent him a message inviting him to join us ..found his postings of a train going over Pill Viaduct and his reference to jerky Maths  homework writing that "killer Keating" used to object to ..we shall see .. we shall see.

Cop a load of this link then .. you won`t believe it .. I say, you won`t believe it !"

Bill, I've just spent a very pleasant, slightly odd hour, looking through Mike Stagg's MySpace page, surreal or what. We'll have to get him to join up.

I said you wouldn`t believe it Stu .. cool init?

Cool it was Bill, was being the operative, it would seem that Mike has closed his MySpace account, hope it wasn't due to our making contact.

Well Stu, I certainly hope it was a coincidence..but it seem strange doesn`t it? .. I didn`t contact him there, (I only found that information about 123 after I emailed him..) it was on a site about Pill and the railways .. .. if our visits to 123 People, com did indeed provoke the reaction .. then logically Mike must have somehow monitored this site to know (a) about my posting here (re a message to him) ..(b) that we were aware of his profile on 123 .. I did send him the link to this site .. Well, we can not dwell on the negative aspect of this encounter for too long .. but it is a shame ...we can only hope that after a suitable period that Michael Dennis Stagg will contact and allow us to re-aquaint  ourselves with him again.

I`m off on my trip now Stu (et al), don`t panick .. it`s the south coast I`m heading for .. but watch out ..Tony`s about ...Ha Ha

Catch you later guys. Toodle Pip!

Hi guys ,talking of reading I don,t know if you have come across this before, its a website of a former pupil and at one time a member of the old MSN site http://www.dfjhough.co.uk/

Evening chaps, well the weekend's with us again, no doubt you've all got something exciting lined up. Tomorrow my better half's dragging me off to Westonbirt, Paul Weller again, I'm a martyr to her little obsessions, then on Sunday I'm working, I can hear you laughing from here.
I had a look at the website of David's, Tony, interesting although I don't think I'll be rushing out to read any of his books, nice to see somone fulfilling an ambition though.
Looks like Bill's will have some decent weather for his little jaunt, must have done the right dance this time, hope so I might just get out for a spot of fishing got a couple of invites to go out on boats but the weather's always been against it, fingers crossed.

Hi Tony and all.
Didn't realise that our school spawned a 'famous' author, wonder who his English master was, 'Taff' Griffiths' eh? Have you read any of his litrary gems?
Things seem a bit quiet now Bill is on hols, but nice to know he is visiting my home county, hope he has a nice time, weather good etc. Stu is quiet also, is he on hols as well? Have I missed something here?
The 1959 group pic that Bill posted in SkyDrive, as you probably know originated from me. When I have a minute I will try to identify some of the people. One person which I don't think appears in the photo, but I remember well, because he was a bit of a character, was a guy called Stan Beck. The other day I was using MSN and idly typed his name in, it came up with a hit. The site was about a construction industry award in Bristol where someone of that name was present. He looked the right age and stature, I wonder if it was the same bloke. Stan had a bit of a flare for German, much to the delight of Herr Ault.
I will paste the identities on 'comments' below the photo later.
Got to go now, things to do!
PS. Sorry about the comment above Stu. We must have been typing simultaneously, at the same time! Hope fishing goes well.

Hi Stu, Tony and all,
Yes Stu, I lived all my formative years including my school days at Corsham, but I was born at Sherborne, still visit both occasionally.
Tony, I was just curious thats all. Fair do's to the man though, at least he is acheving one of his personal goals. I feel that so much is lost because people do not have the time these days to comit their thoughts to paper. Shame!
Have pasted a few comments on the 1959 group and the S and D loco photos.
Still having a little difficulty in navigating my way around the site, but after a bit of fumbling I usually get there in the end!
Its me age.
                                        Bi for now.
Its now Sat evening, hope the do at Westonbirt went OK Stu, and the better half was delighted with the performance. Got to be worth a few Brownie points eh?
Mill transported OK but I recon it was nearer a ton and a half. It's now temporarily in the garage as floor to the workshop still not concreted, glad to be back to work Monday for a rest!
