Steve, I missed the program on BBC4 last night, Shirl was watching something or other and I've got to be a bit diplomatic at the moment having commandeered the TV for most of the day a few weeks back to watch bike racing which was eventually cancelled, whoops! Next Friday on BBC4 there's a programme about Peter Green, I saw the Splinter Group about 3 years ago, and even though he's been away for a long while the playing had hardly suffered at all, might be worth watching.

Hi Stu

Thanks for info. Peter Green is one of my favourites and I have seen him perform three times live. I will be sure to watch the TV prog. Look at BBC4 tonight, Blues at the BBC. Looks good, 8 o'clock your time!!

Pete Green .. wasn`t he in the Cream with Eric Clapton? ..or was it with John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers? .. memory is not what it used to be ..

Hi Bill

Sorry but Pete Green was with Fleetwood Mac (Albratross) and then had a problem with drugs and depression. Came back with the Splinter Group but seems to drift in and out with drugs and drink problems, problem of being a genius!! Cream were Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker. I remember seeing them at the Pavilion. Were you there?

How is life with the new scooter?

cheers

Prempted me there Steve was going to jump in and point out that Peter Green did indeed play with John Mayall if only briefly, does anyone remember the, allegedly last gig/tour of Fleetwood Mac played at Bath City football ground, I know Chicken Shack and Wishbone Ash were among the support (must dig out the program), bugger lost the plot, red wine and Spanish bike GP, sorry. Seems a lot of superlative guitarists have played with Mayall. support for Gary Moore was one Buddy Whittington, also ex Mayall, well worth catching if he's in your area, me,  next one's George Thorogood and the Destroyers, " Bad to the Bone"? heh, heh, heh!!!!!

Hi Stuart

I would guess 1969?  I lived in Lymore Avenue then and could here it all from the garden. Have seen John Mayall a few times and the last time was last year at a music festival in the next town to us. A brilliant venue and Mayall was outstanding. He is in his seventies and he performed as though he was 17!! As you say the Bluesbreakers was a nursery for a lot of Brirish blue's guitarists. Steve Winwood is also performing next town to us this July. Looking forward to it as the last time I seen him was in a Bristol nightclub, be good in the open air auditorium. Warm evenings, cold beer and Steve Winwood - perfect Ma!!!

Must say would not mind seeing George Thorogood, Have only been a recent convert but sounds good. See that Nickleback are on a British tour this year. Will be sure not to \miss the TV programmes coming up this week - Clapton, Pete Green etc.

Enjoy the Bank holiday. Blue skies, sunshine here and temperatures will again rise to over 30, Oh how I miss England!!!

Cheers

Hi Steve, .. thanks for asking .. the bike is doing well .. about 1600 miles now .. just starting to loosen up a bit .. still keeping it below 60 most  of the time .. about at about 2000 miles I`ll replace the engine for a 210cc version .. that should make it go a bit then ..Peter Green .. yes I have two albums of John Mayall circa 1967 -70 and saw JohnMayall and the Blues breakers at Glastonbury Town Hall around that time (1967) .. don`t know if it was the music (or the drugs) ..I ended up outside for a few hours after collapsing into a heap on my crutches .. happy days eh?
The weather is awful here, you are so lucky to be having 30deg celcius .. 1976 was the last time it was that hot here .. Steve, I never know you moved from Lower Bristol road so early on ..was it something to do with major development of Ernest Irelands old site? .. well, this weekend the brownie points are stacking up well for me .. I have done the raised beds .. done me back in as well .. good job Carole is back to her buyers role tomorrow .. catch you soon guys.

Good morning Bill

Left Hopmead Buildings in 1967 after marriage. The houses were knocked down a couple of years later, Mum and Dad moved to Moorfields and Dad is still there! Marriage ended 1980 and tried again in 1984!! Still together, silver anniversary this year. Moved to Spain two and a half years ago - a good move.

What happened to your biography?

Why do I get women in bikinis on the homepage, am I the only lucky member ?

Best to stay below 60 methinks!

Cheers

Hi fellow pupils,

No Steve, You're not the only to get the bikini clad models. I also get them and it makes my blood rush around a lot faster than it should !!!
Talking of John Mayall and his guitarists, nobody's mentioned Walter Trout !! An unfortunate name, tis true, but what a bloody amazing guitarist !! Check him out. Also Eric "slowhand" Clapton. I saw him with The Yardbirds at Bath Pavilion at the time of For Your Love (1964 ??) and also have autographs of the same band with Clapton and the next line up with Jeff Beck who is in my opinion a unique player. As for BBC 4, I've taped the lot, especially Clapton and Winwood. It must be an age thing, but is there anything out there now that I am missing that comes close to the above ?
Not wishing to name drop but when I played with Rod Matthews and Steve Webb in the late 60's, we supported Skid Row, with Gary Moore and as they had nowhere to stay after the gig, the band split in two and Gary and Brush stayed at my flat and the drummer(Noel) around the corner. If only I'd thought to get and autograph and photo. OK, Bill, I know that's not strictly in two, but Maths were never my subject. !!

I must also give in my sick note for absence to Stu. We had an In Law invasion and the chance to get on the net was remote. Luckily I have a small bar in the shed and can managed to get by, if you know what I mean !!

Hi Steve,
thanks for the potted history about Hopmead buildings, sorry to hear about your first marriage .. but more intrigued about these scantily clad Internet women that you and Rich seem to have exclusive access to. I have been luck enought to have found a partner with only a few shortcomings .. I was asked at a truck stop cafe today to name the bad points about my other half. I am gob smacked to report that only two came to mind ..
(1) When we first got married Carole had not attended to what her mother told her about "pancakes" .. the easter variety .. Carole dutifully made the mixture to perfection .. heated the frying pan to the correct temperature .. then proceeded tp pour in the mixture (without moving the pan) .. result .. 30 minutes later, out of a whole bowl of mixture... we had one and a half pancakes some 3/8th of an inch thick!!
(2) 1983 .. new microwave .. sponge cake .. perfect mixture ..whipped lovely .. plastic container in microwave .. rose to perfection .. the lightest sponge I had ever seen .. one problem .. no egg .. so we had a sponge and custard pudding instead !!

So, I guess I`m very lucky .. she is four years younger than me, she can saw .. make plaster, roof trusses .. tile a roof .. carry heavy loads nearly as well as I can .. and she`s only seven stone four pounds and a size 8 !! .. I guess old age is catching up one me..Ha Ha.

The book is still coming along, albeit slightly slower since some of my past caught up with me recently, and it`s stopped me from being so enthusiastic about remembering certain parts of my history. But I will get there ..I hope .. eventually.

Keep soaking up the sun .. and they do say marriage is better the second time around .. you know all the pitfalls !

Hi Rich,
The music ..I don`t think it`s an age thing really ..it just so happens that we all grew up in an age of non-computerised ..(apart from the Moog sythesizer) non sampled software loop-based arangemnet of musical notes. A whole different generation are now just discovering flexibility and raw nature of live music instead of (as Mick Ringham would call it) "chewing gum for the ears" offering form the old music industry. It can only be a good thing that musicians have such good audience access now via the Internet to promote (and take the financial benefit) for themselves instead of being driven by some money making machine. When I get older I might get back into live music again .. sort of wheel chair bound, might be when i do it .. I can have my own 3 wheel Piagio MP3 bike and chaufeer to get me to the outdoor gigs ..Ha Ha ..

Inlaw invasion .. I try not to do Inlaw invasion very often .. but we are preparing ourselves for a bit more outdoor entertaining capacity with all this garden construction .. so things might change on that front soon.

Well we didn't get 30 degrees at the weekend, not even 13, either strong Westerlies or Northerlies and cold with it.
I don't get the bikinis either Bill, if you work out how let me know, could do with a bit of cheering up.
Walter Trout Band, excellent Rich didn't mention them didn't think anyone else would have heard of them, I presume you're familiar with The Hamsters, for new stuff check out MySpace music and have a listen to some of the bands on there, you can follow links from one to another, some good stuff, some to move past quickly, I listen to a lot of Americana myself, the Felice Brothers, Fleet Foxes, Okkervil River, Josh Ritter, the Willard Grant Conspiracy, Lambchop, Iron and Wine are a few that spring to mind. We're lucky down here quite a strong local music scene, largely singer songwriter/folk rock based, but OK, check Chris Millington on MySpace. Or for all you musos there's the LLAMA festival at Lynton & Lynmouth in June, free, small crowds and a nice atmosphere, no really big names just good music. Of course you could wait till later in the year when my mate Martin, also a resident of Timsbury, are considering a live performance, a duet for cello and electric guitar, he's a beginner on the cello and I can't play the guitar, practice is a bit complicated as we have to practice solo, timing could be critical, you will understand that this idea was concieved after several drinks.
Bar in the shed Rich, wish I had a shed, still no in-laws to hide from either, mind you if my father in law was still with us he'd be in the shed as well and it would be a devil of a job to get him out, belligerent after two brown ales was Jim.
My Mrs couldn't cook either when we got married Bill, mind you I never married her for her abilities in the kitchen, it wasn't down to her mother not having taught her, she couldn't cook either, poison for England maybe but cook no chance.
Re the book, it's complicated isn't it Bill, expose too much and rick incarceration, and or, castration, or keep sthum and remain to all intents and purposes boring, and considering my Mrs is a bit handy with a shovel and concrete, as well as being a former weightlifting champion, another 8 stone weakling, and a practicioner of karate I might just keep quiet.
As Peter Green might have put it Oh Well!
